Emma died of SUDEP (Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy). People who have uncontrolled epileptic seizures run a higher risk of dying of SUDEP. Emma’s seizures were more frequent over the last year and was prone to having seizures at night. As well as giving families support, SUDEP Action is researching risks associated with the condition, so having key, up-to-date information is important to help manage them. SUDEP Action works closely with researchers and specialists. SUDEP occurs in approximately 1 per 1000 people with at least three epilepsy-related deaths a day in the UK.
